Requirements of models and simulations:

Activity 1
2D Driving Simulator
: http://geoquake.jp/en/webgame/DrivingSimulator/
Consider how the car controls differently from the truck and bus.
Do you think this is an accurate simulation or not? What could be done to make it more effective?

Activity 2
Word bank activity: http://www.nathanlukewong.com/teaching/quiz.swf
Complete the word bank exercise after learning about different types of hardware and software.

Activity 3
After you have played with the above simulations and learnt about the hardware and software required to operate these simulations:
  • Consider what other types of simulations there are?
  • What could these be used for?
  • What are the types of hardware and software is required to run these simulations? [ie the system requirements]
You are required to find one simulation program (that is not driving) and answer the above questions. You are to submit your answers as a comment by clicking on the comments link below. Remember to include your name!

Example:
Microsoft Flight Simulator
Microsoft Flight Simulator could be used for training pilots as well as for leisure.
Software to operate MFS
  • Windows XP SP2/Vista
Hardware to operate Microsoft Flight Simulator
  • Processor: 1.0 Ghz
  • Ram: Windows XP SP2 - 256MB, Windows Vista – 512MB
  • Hard Drive: 14GB
  • Video Card: 32MB DirectX 9 compatible
  • Other: DX9 hardware compatibility and audio board with speakers and/or headphones
